Aspirations.

So I was sitting in my room and a thought popped up in my head. As kids we are asked what do you want to be when you grow up. Each time a person asked us we would probably give them a different response each time.

As we became older the question changed to, 'What are your greatest aspirations in life?'

The answer that I would give to that question would probably be: 'My Greatest aspirations in life is to finish undergrad advance to grad school. Find a job that'll make back what I spent on school. Travel the world. Maybe marriage. And enjoy life.'

From young we are thought that we should always aspire to be the best. Growing up, I remember attending primary school** and the motto of the school was, 'We Aspire to Be the Best with God's help.'

As I advanced onto high school and college, many times the question that was presented to me was, 'What are your greatest aspirations in life?' Are you just doing things because you have to? Or are you doing them because it's something that your heart wants.

As a college student we are faced with many challenges and difficulties. Sometimes we become so discouraged that we no longer want to finish a degree and take a semester or two off. Some students return after their break and others just decide that college isn't the right place for them. But honestly, I'm tired of being criticized by adults about the paths that I choose to walk in life. Not everyone is inclined to be married; it is not a necessity. Not everyone is inclined to attend college. And not because someone is great at Math means that they're supposed to become a Math Major. Some people get so caught up living in their parents shadows that they end up losing sight of the things that really matter in life. That is living your own dreams and aspirations.

I'm not saying to be rebellious, *laughs* but at least follow the dreams that you have in your heart and your aspirations. I'll leave you with a quote by another one of my favorite people, Mahatma Gandhi, "Life is an aspiration. Its mission is to strive after perfection, which is self-realization. The ideal must not be lowered because of our weaknesses or imperfections."
